The court declared that Ms Kone-Toure’s claims were unsubstantiated, adding that her non-selection was not in any way a violation of her rights.
Presiding Judge, Justice Dupe Atoki, stated that the South-East zone had adequate representation within Nigeria’s governance structure.
The court noted that the first applicant, a Nigerian-registered NGO, claimed to represent public interest but failed to meet the required criteria for public interest litigation.

The court, however, ordered each party to bear their own costs in the suit.
The court had awarded a consent judgement on the matter in 2017, ordering N50 billion as compensation to the victims of remnants of explosives from Nigeria’s three-year civil war.
