The Directorate of Road Traffic Services says it impounded 9,389 vehicles for traffic offences in the last eight months.
Mr Emetu explained that DRTS had registered over 4,600 despatch riders in the FCT and were operating legally in the territory.
DRTS spokesman Kalu Emetu disclosed this in an interview on Wednesday in Abuja.
The authorities have consistently crushed motorcycles seized from offending riders.
DRTS says it will deploy artificial intelligence around some road interjections in Abuja to manage traffic.
The Directorate of Road Traffic Services has commenced the sensitisation of motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations for free traffic flow in Abuja.
Mr Emetu called on members of the public to join hands with the service in its quest to serve the residents better, as DRTS cannot do it alone.
Mr Emetu said the service decided to impose stiffer penalties to reduce traffic offences in the territory.
He said it had become imperative because the payment of fines or other lesser punishments was no longer yielding the desired result.
“Therefore, it is wrong for the person to feel that another one should be given to him or her free of charge,” he said.
