The police spokesperson said the operation, carried out over the weekend, was part of efforts to rid Kogi of criminal elements threatening the state’s peace.
The traditional ruler was returning from a traditional council meeting in Abejukolo when he was ambushed at Ojuwo Ugweche by armed assailants.
The CP urged the people of Kogi to continue to collaborate with the security agencies.
SP Williams Ovye-Aya, spokesman of Kogi Police Command, described the rescue operation as “very swift and pragmatic.”
“The electorate should be rest assured of adequate security during the election,” he said.
The police commissioner, however, expressed his sympathy to victims of last Friday’s Koton Karfe political violence that left some people wounded.
