Mr Lai’s speech took place a day before Russian President Vladimir Putin’s May 9 Victory Day parade, attended by Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
“We are willing to work with China…maintaining regional security to pursue peace…for the well-being of the people on the two sides of the Taiwan Strait,” said Mr Lai.
The latest action adds to a series of sanctions Beijing has imposed on U.S. defence companies for selling weapons to Taiwan.
Taiwan’s new President, Lai Ching-te, has called on Beijing to cease its political and military intimidation of his democratic island country.
