Mr Obasa said the approval of these guidelines marked another bold step by the assembly towards strengthening grassroots governance.
Announcing his resignation on Monday at his office in Ikeja, Mr Adediran said he was leaving the party owing to what he called betrayal by PDP elders.
“We still have power to supervise spending of the local government and we can still call them,” he said.
The speaker said the ultimate objective of the bill is to bring governance to all parts of the state.
ODIEC’s spokesperson, Joseph Aremo, announced the indefinite postponement of the polls, citing political parties’ non-compliance with guidelines.
The suspension was announced on Wednesday in a letter from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Many communities, towns and regions of the state had rejected the creation and the site of the LCDAs.
Ondo has 18 local government areas (LGAs). If passed into law, the number of councils in Ondo would be 51.
The polls comes as Governor Gboyega Oyetola leaves office on November 27, having lost his re-election bid to PDP’s Ademola Adeleke.
The governor urged the Police to enforce the order without compromise.
