‘Operation UDO KA’ task force says it killed 13 armed members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra in the South-East.
Mr Unuakhalu said troops, on December 5, cleared the IPOB/ESN camp at Uhuala-Aku in the Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo.
“The troops swiftly pursued the kidnappers and made contact with them.’’
Mr Unuakhalu said the heavy movement of troops and the gunshot sounds would be part of the army’s training routine called range classification exercise from March 18 to 21 in Enugu.
“They were also planning to carry out attacks on our troops.”
The clearance operation centred on suspected hideouts of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra and its Eastern Security Network.
Troops of “Operation UDO KA II’’ conducted clearance operations on terrorist camps in Imo and Anambra on Saturday
“Troops also came in contact with the terrorists who fled into the nearby bushes with gunshot wounds due to superior firepower.”
The rescue followed a distress call from the police to troops deployed at Udi checkpoint.
“The Division will continue to carry out its assigned and constitutional role in line with global best practices,” he assured.
