Mr Guterres warned that without moderation, social media risked becoming an arena for heated conflicts and blatant ignorance.
Meta plans to develop a massive data centre with a capacity of more than two gigawatts.
In addition to this, Meta has reportedly removed transgender and non-binary “themes” on its Messenger chat app.
Mr Zuckerberg announced the cessation of Meta’s fact-checking programme last Tuesday, citing concerns over political bias.
“We do allow allegations of mental illness or abnormality when based on gender or sexual orientation,” said Meta.
Mr Zuckerberg said, “We’re gonna get back to our roots and focus on reducing mistakes, simplifying our policies, and restoring free expression on our platforms.’’
“We’re going to get rid of fact-checkers and replace them with community notes, similar to X,” Mr Zuckerberg said in a video on Tuesday.
The giant tech company Meta has announced the election of Dana White, John Elkann and Charlie Songhurst to the company’s board of directors.
The case was brought by Austrian data protection activist Max Schrems, who has already won two major legal disputes against Facebook.
Kojo Boakye, vice-president of public policy (Africa, the Middle East, and Turkiye) for Meta, said this in a statement on Tuesday.
