The federal government commenced distributing free fertiliser to 20,160 smallholder farmers in the South-South.
He said the seasonal prediction should serve as an early warning tool for farmers.

The minister said the youth are taking the lead in agrifood innovation, from precision agriculture to AI-powered farm tools and soilless farming.
The agric minister has expressed satisfaction with the level of agricultural investments and processing activities in Kaduna.
“This is also part of the federal government’s effort towards addressing the underlying challenges impacting the attainment of national food security goals,” he noted.
Mr Marwa stated, “Instead of living in fear of arrest by NDLEA, they will lead respectable lives with their families and their communities.”
Mr Kyari also emphasised Nigeria’s advantage in the global market, citing the country’s naturally non-GMO soybeans.
“The emphasis attached to dry season farming is a portent vehicle for food security,” the minister said.
