The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), says it has evolved strategies to curb incessant security challenges confronting pastoralists.
“Most of our grazing reserves have been taken over by those in power. To get these back, we have to also join politics and even contest elective positions.”
He pointed out that some of the herders were born and brought up in the southern states against open grazing.
“Criminality started in the South. Armed robbery, kidnapping, all started in the South. We have been watching these on television.”
“We have agreed that we give them a moratorium period of 10 days, and by the 14th day, which falls on the 10th of April, we will start impounding (cows).”
A truce between farmers and herders was brokered by the police in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday.
“Over five million cattle that have been lost as a result of banditry, cattle rustling, kidnapping, and climate change.”
He stated that MCBAN was a peace loving association, adding that it was never a criminals association.
Fulani herdsmen have been repeatedly touted as key instigators of numerous violent atrocities being perpetrated by criminals.
