The European Union has congratulated Angola’s President João Lourenço on his election as the new chairperson of the African Union.
Mr Mahamat said that six French states had been suspended from the AU due to unconstitutional changes of government.
It will be the fourth time Mr Jonathan will lead an AU election observation mission since 2016.
Mr Mahamat expressed “shock at the violent and degrading treatment of African migrants attempting to cross into Spain.”
The AU praised the outgoing president, Mr Lungu, for demonstrating strong leadership and statesmanship.
