Mr Pate said the present administration was committed to improving the health sector.
He said that veterinary competencies must be regarded as an essential and integral part of health at large.
ECOWAS said the workshop was also to support efforts to tackle drug abuse and provide resources and strategies for member states, particularly Sierra Leone.
Mr Pate emphasised the progress made in combating HIV and acknowledged the crucial support provided by the U.S. government.
Mr Pate expressed concerns about low immunisation rates among children in Nigeria.
