They accused the state government of allegedly refusing to pay several years of unpaid entitlements.
The university management directed the students to vacate the hostels by August 4.
Mr Yusuf said that the decision to embark on the protest was taken at the end of the NEC meeting.
He said the decision was in line with the union’s concern for the tertiary education system so as not to disrupt the academic calendar.
“Nigeria must transcend the concept of a mere minimum wage to embrace the notion of a living wage.
“This development may compel many of our students to drop out of school, occasioned by the current economic hardship facing parents.”
“The committee will provide opportunities for members of the KASU community to make input in the development of the university.”
“The federal government should be blamed for the lingering strike action by the National Association of Academic Technologists.”
The minister said it was important that a speedy resolution was reached so that students could return to school.
The decision came from the resolution of a meeting held on March 17 and based on a referendum where 47 branches participated.
