U.S. President Donald Trump has credited himself with pushing NATO allies to agree to higher defence spending targets.
Washington has repeatedly urged allies to agree to spend five per cent of gross domestic product on defence at the upcoming NATO summit in June.
In an open letter seen by dpa, they also called for rejecting Germany’s participation in developing European medium-range weapons.
SPD has expressed support for the stationing of long-range U.S. weapons in Germany, an issue that has stoked controversy.
“Russia’s incremental gains on the battlefield are nothing compared with the collective international support for Ukraine,” said Mr Starmer.
On Wednesday, Mr Biden tested positive for COVID-19 and has since entered isolation, suspending his campaign activities.
“My mental acuity’s been pretty damn good,” said the incumbent American president.
Since the debate, Democrats have pressured Mr Biden to consider stepping down in favour of a more viable candidate.
I will not bow down to Putin. I will not walk away from Ukraine. I will keep NATO strong,” said Mr Biden.
On Wednesday, NATO leaders are meeting in Washington to discuss the alliance’s support for Ukraine in the war against Russia.
