The governor said the payments also covered death benefits inherited in 2023.
Mr Aina described the initiative as a lifesaver amid the rising cost of medical care.
The PRO, however, appreciated the region’s governors for increasing funding for the payment of gratuities to pensioners in their respective states.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa said the N3.2 billion disbursement would offset the gratuity owed to the 2015 retirees under the State Pension Scheme.
He said the way Mr Tinubu and the state governors negotiated the new minimum wage amid economic hardship was not in the best interest of the workers.
“I want to make it clear: I am going to lead Nigerian pensioners in a protest so that the world will see that pensioners are suffering,” NUP vowed.
The group appealed to the government to extend the payment of the wage award from three to six months as was done for other regular workers.
He added that the decision was in fulfilment of his campaign promises to the people.
He said that many states in the zone last paid their pensioners’ gratuities between 2012 and 2014, describing it as criminal and unacceptable.
He advised the incoming government of President-elect Bola Tinubu to settle down and look at the modalities and visibility of removing subsidies.
