The NUT president said basic education should never be left entirely in the hands of the local government councils.
They also called for the appointment of a special adviser on labour matters in the state.
NUT president said if the commission is established, it will regulate the unity schools’ activities and reduce the burden on the Ministry of Education.
On Oct. 5, 2020, former President Muhammadu Buhari approved a special salary scale for teachers in the country.
The NUT chairman, Akintoye Hassan, in an interview on Saturday in Lagos, suggested that the issue be treated with urgency.
The teachers had given a 14-day ultimatum to the government and local councils to address the plight of teachers across the state or face industrial action.
Mr Knabayi explained that the strike was suspended after an agreement was reached between the teachers and area councils chairmen following Mr Wike’s intervention.
According to him, the situation is not better in many states of the federation.
He added that the decision was in fulfilment of his campaign promises to the people.
Parents, teachers, and other stakeholders made the call in separate interviews in Ibadan on Sunday.
