During the operation, NCC’s director in Enugu, Ngozi Okeke, said the exercise was part of the commission’s move to end piracy.
After 13 years of litigation, the FCT High Court dismissed a case of alleged malicious prosecution against NCC.
The NCC boss said the policy would be a blueprint for a more efficient, modern, responsive legal and administrative framework to leverage creative and innovative potential.
“No doubt, infringers have sent many copyright owners to an early grave and pauperised uncountable numbers,” said Rockson Igelige, a lawyer.
NCC claimed MTN and others used Mr Maleke’s music and sound recordings, with subsisting copyright, as caller ringback tunes without the artiste’s authorisation.
The television station, it was gathered, was allegedly stealing the programme contents of other digital satellite transmitting stations like DSTV and Startimes.
The arrest and seizing of materials were carried out between January and August.
“The commission has only 324 staff in the entire federation with 14 offices.”
