He added that he was delighted that SWDC was set to become a strong player in the rail sector.
Mr Opeifa called on the state government to support the federal government by ensuring accessible roads to train terminals in their states.
Mr Opeifa said, “The temporary suspension was necessary to carry out critical repairs.”
The NRC chief appealed to residents of communities hosting railway facilities to support the corporation.
Mr Opeifa confirmed that the main line had been repaired to a safe level for operations, though work continues on the secondary track.
Some portions of the rail tracks and coaches were destroyed last Tuesday after a Kaduna-bound train derailed at Asham Station.
The NRC boss added that the remaining passengers were conveyed safely back to Idu and Kubwa stations aboard a rescue train dispatched from Idu for that purpose.
Mr Opeifa said eight suspects were apprehended on July 11 for vandalising railway track components along the Sheme-Gusau rail corridor in Katsina State.
The MD also said that the rail services were now under the concurrent list.
The commissioner said the Jos-Abuja and Jos-Lagos air routes were revived, slashing travel time from many hours by road to just a few minutes by air.
