He assured that the troops would continue to provide all security support to affected communities within the law’s ambit.
The minister of state for defence said the retirees’ experience, garnered over the years as military officers, would remain relevant.
Mr Bello explained the incident on the Lokoja-Abuja highway as a “mere” altercation between his security detail and some military personnel at a checkpoint.
The federal government has announced plans to include families of Nigerian fallen soldiers and members of the Nigerian Legion among the beneficiaries of its Conditional Cash Transfer Scheme.
“The perpetrators of insecurity are not ghosts, they have families, relations and are from villages and communities in the country.”

Mr Udu called on Nigerians to continue to support and pray for the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Mr Nwachukwu said the troops waited for the marauding terrorists before engaging them in a fierce firefight that neutralised two while others fled in disarray.
“The troops also recovered three locally made magazines, six mobile phones, drugs and charms,” he added.
“I must also remark that we have (the) capacity and moral strength to deliver on our constitutional mandate.”
