“We are demanding that whatever is given to ASUU should also be given to us because we face the same economic realities,” Mr Adeyemi said.
Mr Ibrahim noted that the suspension was temporary and strictly conditional on government compliance with the deadline.
Mr Adeyemi said the repeated threats by government representatives to invoke the policy were ‘unjust and contrary to the principles of fair labour relations.’
He said that a payment of the agreement had been made in October 2024.
The NLC condemned the police commissioner’s action and threatened to protest nationwide if he failed to urgently apologise for trampling on both unions’ rights.
“In light of this, we demand an immediate police apology to NASU and SSANU members whom they violated.”
SSANU and NASU have threatened to shut down universities across Nigeria over withheld salaries.
“Much worse, it defies logic to try to subject members of these unions to discriminatory treatment.”
Mr Makolo said that the call was imperative to ensure industrial harmony in the sector.
“I want to inform you that we have lost over 50 staff members as a result of irregularities in salary payments since a few years ago,” said the unions.
