Mr Opeifa said that the efforts of the workers had continued to sustain the operations of the NRC.
The NRC said the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service (LITS) will run three trips on Thursday, April 2, to meet the anticipated surge in passenger traffic.
He said three trips would run on March 20, 21, 22, and 23.
The minister acknowledged the ongoing challenges experienced within the railway sector.
He said if the federal government can invest more in local engineers, the country will save billions of dollars.
He added that he was delighted that SWDC was set to become a strong player in the rail sector.
Mr Opeifa called on the state government to support the federal government by ensuring accessible roads to train terminals in their states.
“We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause our valued passengers and the public,” said NRC.
Mr Unyimadu pointed out that as part of their commitment to passenger welfare, the NRC refunded 512 passengers out of the 583 on board the affected train.
NRC’s managing director reiterated the importance of safe work practices and urged the workers to take their jobs seriously.
