The World Health Organisation has called on governments to significantly increase taxes on sugary drinks and alcohol to save lives.
WHO warned that without deliberate policies, these treatments may widen existing health inequalities.
WHO said the rise is attributed to the increase in obesity, compounded by the impacts of unhealthy food marketing, lack of physical activity, and economic hardship.
No country is on track to meet the WHO’s target of halting the rise of obesity by 2030.
