Ezekwesili and Odinkalu had protested the brutal murder of Deborah Samuel by Muslim extremists over allegation of blasphemy.
The Akwa Ibom governor made his run public while receiving the chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Olumide Akpata, in his office on Friday.
“These developments in our courts are antithetical to the actualisation of the just society and independent judiciary that we all aspire to.”
The IGP pledged that the police would work with the lawyers association to harmonise functions and frameworks for administration of criminal justice system.
He said the move is not constitutionally backed and referred to it as a “dent on our constitutional democracy.”
“It is an anomaly to have a unitary judiciary in a federation.”
