He said a clean environment would promote good health for children and adults living in the community.
“It is a public health emergency and a developmental project for us,” he said.
He said the findings followed a needs assessment carried out in 84 of the council’s 256 communities.
She further disclosed that no fewer than 40 million Nigerians practise open defecation, which constitutes a major cause of disease outbreaks.

The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Terlumun Utsev, stated that about 48 million people in Nigeria were practising open defecation.
It advised the public to take adequate precautions as strong winds might precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur.
He also warned residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
He said the state was also prepared to step up enforcement against refuse dumping, open defecation, and urinating in parks and walkways.
