AFCON is scheduled for December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026; the Women’s tournament, scheduled for this year, is now slated for July 5 to July 26, 2025.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles beat South Africa in the penalty shootout on Wednesday to reach the final of this year’s tournament.
Not much is known of the competition a little over three months before it is set to kick off, with CAF yet to formally confirm the participating clubs.
“There is no excuse for what has happened. We must show responsibility when people lose their lives and are injured,” Motsepe said.
CAF provides a sizable voting bloc within the organisation, with 54 of its 211 members.
