“This cannot happen soon enough,” she said, speaking on behalf of the UN secretary-general António Guterres on Monday.
Nearly 50,000 children in the West Bank also go to UNRWA schools.
“No end to hell,” wrote Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the UN agency responsible for Palestinian refugees, on X about the situation in northern Gaza.
“What’s happening in Gaza is totally unacceptable,” Mr Guterres wrote on X. “These dramatic violations of international humanitarian law need to stop now.”
“Israeli residents set fire twice to the perimeter of the UNRWA Headquarters in occupied East Jerusalem,” Philippe Lazzarini said in a post on X.
The UN agency that assists Palestine refugees, UNRWA, will run out of fuel in three days, putting the humanitarian response in Gaza at risk.
“No place is safe in Gaza anymore….At least 4,000 people have taken refuge in this UNRWA school-turned-shelter.”
Over 423,000 people have already been displaced, of whom more than 270,000 have taken refuge in UNRWA shelters.
