The development comes barely a year after Mr Mnangagwa said he would step down after his second term.
In April, President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared a state of disaster, saying the country requires over $2 billion to respond to the drought.
More than 2.7 million people in Zimbabwe will go hungry this year, Mr Mnangagwa told journalists.
The elections were held on Wednesday.
