The Nigerian stock market extended last week’s losses on Monday as investors shed N68 billion through sustained profit-taking.
The equities market opened the week lower on Monday, as market capitalisation fell by N1.173 trillion or 1.26 per cent.
This was lower than 523.5 million shares valued at N1.45 billion exchanged across 12,666 transactions in the preceding week.
Investors gained N289 million as the market capitalisation opened at N63.147 trillion and recorded a slight change to close at N63.147 trillion.
The N36 billion loss from Tuesday’s N30.391 trillion equity capitalisation, represents a decline of 0.12 per cent.
The upturn was impacted by gains in stocks such as MTN Nigeria, Zenith Bsnk, WAPCO, among others.
Market capitalisation lost N16 billion to close at N21.474 trillion compared with N21.490 trillion recorded on Monday.
