Until his appointment, Adebayo Lawal, one-time Oyo attorney-general, had served as chairman of the State Housing Corporation.
Mr Olaniyan was impeached Monday morning following the adoption of the report of an investigative panel set up by the state’s Chief Judge Munta Abimbola.
The Oyo State Chief Judge has appointed a seven man committee to investigate allegations levelled against deputy governor Rauf Olaniyan by the State Assembly.
Mr Fashanu had filed an application for the court to restrain the House from taking steps toward the deputy governor’s impeachment.
Mr Olaniyan had filed a suit against the state House of Assembly over the impeachment process against him by the lawmakers.
The lawmakers initiated the process, on Wednesday, during a plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin.
Mr Olaniyan announced his defection while speaking with journalists in his private office in the Ojoo area of Ibadan.
The cleric believes that many young Nigerians now abandon their apprenticeship to go into ‘yahoo yahoo’.
He explained that insecurity was not peculiar to the state, saying it is a national issue.
