Additional security measures are scheduled to take effect from May 18.
The police officer noted that the suspect remained in police custody and efforts ongoing to apprehend other members of the kidnap syndicate.
According to Ms Iringe-Koko, the suspects have been detained and are cooperating with investigators.
The police spokesperson said all suspects confessed to the crime and detailed their individual roles.
Ms Iringe-Koko said the police recovered the tricycle, a bundle of rope, and a wrap of fufu from the suspect.
Mr Obasi is accused of targeting victims by falsely branding them scammers, posting their photographs online, and subsequently demanding money from them.
The Rivers State police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, said no life was lost in the incident.
“The police invited Nwaobakata for questioning, but he refused to honour several invitations sent to him.’’
The PPRO said the police chased the criminals out of town.
