The U.S. noted that indefinite pause to visa processing for the countries would take effect from January 21.
“I support it,” Trump told U.S. broadcaster Fox News in an interview published on Thursday. “I hope we don’t have to use it.”
China said, “No country can act as the world’s police, nor presume to be the international judge.”
The UK and French governments have lauded Mr Trump’s action, describing Mr Maduro as an illegitimate leader.
The White House has yet to confirm the meeting.
Ukrainian media reported that hypersonic Kinzhal missiles were among the weapons used.
EU leaders will meet in Brussels on Thursday, aiming to agree on how to fund Ukraine’s economic and military needs in the coming years.

According to media reports, the draft agreement from Washington envisions Ukraine ceding territory and making additional concessions.
