Mali is struggling to stem an Islamist insurgency that took root after a 2012 coup and has since spread from the West African country’s arid north.
The meeting was to come up with solutions to the security challenges in the Sahel region.
The UK has also announced further humanitarian funding to several West African countries in the Sahel region, including Mali, Burkina Faso, Chad and Niger.
Security in Burkina Faso has worsened since 2015 as attacks have killed more than 1,000 people and displaced more than 1.9 million others.
The two leaders might use the opportunity of their meeting to deliberate on the menace of terrorism and arms proliferation threatening the peace and security of the sub-region.
