Mr Oyedeji also disclosed that the truck driver fled the scene, likely out of fear of being arrested.
Samuel Oyedeji, FRSC Kogi sector commander, disclosed this to journalists in Lokoja on Tuesday and attributed the accident to high speed.
Mr Oyedeji congratulated the officers and marshals on their promotion during the ceremony held in Lokoja
Mr Victor emphasised the importance of preserving travellers’ lives.
“We are going to prosecute the driver of this trailer to serve as a deterrent to other drivers.”
The copses have been deposited in the mortuary of the same hospital,” Mr Oyedeji said.
An eyewitness hailed the villagers who came to the scene of the accident and rescued the injured.
Mr Oyedeji said the casualty figure represented a 14 per cent decrease compared to the 2022 and 2023.
Mr Oyedeji urged motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid dangerous driving and overloading.
“The objective of this event is to provide a platform to remember people killed and those seriously injured through road traffic crashes.”
