Mr Adebanjo died at 96 on Friday at his Lekki Phase 1, Lagos residence.
Mr Obi noted that “democracy is suffering in Nigeria now,” accusing the APC of turning “democracy into transitional politics.”
The party said, “We think that this unholy alliance between Ebiseni and APC-sponsored NLC is geared towards frustrating our expected victory at the polls.’’
“He will be reuniting with his former party today.’’
Afenifere also denied sending a congratulatory message to any of the candidates using the name of the ethnic group.
The apex-Yoruba group said Peter Obi’s “verifiable records as a two-term Governor of Anambra State” makes him the most competent and suitable candidate.
