“At my direction, South Africa will not be receiving an invitation to the 2026 G20, which will be hosted in the great city of Miami, Florida, next year,” Mr Trump declared.
Mr Shettima had departed South Africa on Sunday for Luanda after a successful outing at the 2025 G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg.
The meeting is scheduled to hold from Monday to Wednesday in the Angolan capital, Luanda.
The UN chief is attending the summit to push for economic and climate action.
Mr Shettima will engage foreign leaders and development partners on issues relating to the economy, security, climate change, among others.
Mr Nkwocha said Mr Shettima’s trip to South Africa was necessitated by Mr Tinubu’s decision to stay back in Nigeria and attend to security concerns in the country.
