The police command in Rivers has announced the arrest of Nwile Bete, a 30-year-old suspected kidnap kingpin, during an operation in Port Harcourt.
Ms Iringe-Koko said that the gang had been operating between 10.00 p.m. and 5.00 a.m. daily, for the past three years.
A witness, who gave her name as Faith, alleged that the woman had been taking children from nearby communities and churches.
The suspect behind the June 25 dynamite explosion at the Rivers-owned Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt was on the police wanted list.
The police have warned that criminal elements have hijacked the #EndBadGovenance protest in Rivers and are targeting motorists and businesses.
The police spokesperson said another one-chance criminal gang from Aba, known for robbing passengers and returning to their base in Aba, was also apprehended.
The event, code-named Aiye Day or 7/7, is scheduled to be observed in all states of the federation NAN
The Rivers Police Command is currently investigating an improvised explosive device (IED) detonation that occurred near Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, an official said.
“Consequently, the command advises the organisers to suspend the planned protest to avert any possible breakdown of law and order,” the police said.
The incident happened a few kilometres from the Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital and the University of Port Harcourt.
