The police earlier arrested three suspects involved in the crime on Saturday, but the one nabbed in the ceiling fled.
She said that the command also secured three convictions within the same period, pointing out that other cases were pending in the courts.
It was learnt that the gunmen had a getaway boat waiting for them nearby, which they reportedly used to whisk away their victims.
Ms Itagbor, a mother of four, was beaten and burnt alive by some youths in the Netim community in the Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River.
The commissioner, who described the incident as unfortunate, noted that no person had the right to take another life under any guise.
The suspects were said to have tried to snatch the Toyota Corolla vehicle from the driver while on their way to their supposed destination.
“Killing him in the most gruesome manner through mob action is not only barbaric, it is illegal and unacceptable,” the police spokeswoman stated.
The police said most of the hoodlums had been arrested and were being profiled.
The women who were carrying placards of various inscriptions, alleged that the APC government was witch-hunting its perceived political enemies.
The gunmen who blocked the highway also shot and injured a popular evangelist in the state, Edim-Edim Omin.
