Sri Lanka’s cabinet has approved a proposal to absorb Sri Lankan Airlines’ outstanding debt of $510 million by the government.
Once profitable, Sri Lankan Airlines faced a downturn following the termination of a management agreement with Emirates in 2008.
The sanctions also target countries supplying “equipment to Russia and those responsible for the illegal deportation and military re-education of Ukrainian children.”
Over 1,550 instances of leprosy were reported in 2023, and out of those, 173 were among schoolchildren.
The bill was passed in the parliament with amendments after a two-day debate on January 23 to 24.
The South Asian country received 1,487,303 tourists in 2023.
The countries are China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan.
