The director warned that any hospital found treating Lassa fever patients without proper authorisation would face sanctions.
Mr Ojeifo noted that since the outbreak of Lassa fever was declared on December 30, 2024, the state had recorded 83 confirmed cases out of 378 suspected cases.
Mr Ojeifo said, “The only result we received from the National Reference Laboratory in Abuja last week was negative for cholera.’’
The Ministry of Health in Edo on Thursday declared a cholera outbreak in the state, confirming six cases of the disease so far.
Mr Ojeifo disclosed in an interview with journalists in Benin on Monday that the two deaths were from the six confirmed cases of diphtheria recorded during the same period.
In an interview with journalists on Friday, Mr Ojeifo said the confirmed case was among the 11 suspected cases recorded in the state during the period under review.
He said, “We have three suspected cases of mpox; two patients are in Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, and one is at the Edo State University Teaching Hospital, Auchi.”
However, the Edo government said it approved more than N27 million for the procurement of family planning commodities for 2024.
