The police command in Adamawa has mounted 24-hour surveillance and patrol as part of proactive measures to protect lives and property during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The soldiers who opened fire on the protesters were said to have arrived at the company in Hilux vans, having left their duty post at Numan bridge.
“The suspects fired gunshots to scare our men, but when the gunshots were returned, one of the kidnappers was neutralised.”
The spokesman said three others were injured when they were attacked by no fewer than 60 armed hoodlums.
