Tems led the Afrobeats nominees with three nods, while Wizkid, Asake, and Burna Boy each received one nomination in the major categories.
“I warmly congratulate our outstanding Nigerian artistes for their remarkable achievements at the 9th edition of the All Africa Music Awards,” said Mr Tinubu.
Nigerian Afrobeats stars are once again back in the global spotlight as Rema, Tems, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, and Asake secure nominations at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards.
This marks a major moment not just for Tems but for African music as a whole.
This year’s nomination list is led by American rapper Kendrick Lamar with 10 selections.
Emerging star Divine Uzama, aka Zerry DL, clinched Rookie of the Year, topping competitors like Taves, Kaestyle, Llona and Sound.
The 2025 AMA Awards will be broadcast live from Las Vegas on May 26th.
According to the club, Tems became part of San Diego’s ownership group through her company The Leading Vibe.
Tinubu commended Tems for her artistry, which had brought pride to Nigeria on the global stage for the second time.
In the category, she beat other Nigerian nominees, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Asake, Rema, Lojay, Davido, and Yemi Alade.
