INEC revealed that “So far, only 27,753 cards were issued out of the 132,750 new PVCs received as at Jan. 5, 2023.”
Mr Okoye said that the attack was the fourth in the state, after that of Orlu and Oru West LGA, as well as the State Headquarters in Owerri.
“I call on those who register, transferred, updated their bio-data or requested for replacement of their lost or damaged PVCs to go and collect their PVCs,” he said.
INEC has warned politicians and their supporters against bullying and hate speech during electioneering.
The electoral body further warned that rallies should not promote, propagate or attack opposition parties, candidates, their programmes or ideologies.
A total of 411 polling units with over 1,000 voters would be migrated to 336 less populated ones.
“Sadly, this is the third attack on our LGA office in less than three weeks following similar attacks on our offices in Ogun and Osun on November 10,” Mr Okoye said.
The electoral body said most of the registered voters “have refused to collect their PVCs.”
INEC officials will be available in each of the 245 wards between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. daily from November 12 to November 25 to take records.
The electoral commission said it does not envisage anything to the contrary.
