The president of DKIPPI, Tokunbo Smith, gave this warning on Tuesday in Lagos.
A consultant with the NGO, Raphael Akombe, said many Nigerians, including professionals and students, still lacked adequate understanding of data privacy.
She emphasised the importance of taking data protection seriously, regardless of age.
Mr Oyeleye acknowledged the benefits of a national document but noted that state-level regulations were also necessary.
The NDPC national commissioner said that of the country’s 10,000 skilled data protection professionals, less than 5,000 are certified.
Stakeholders have advocated using health information technology for improved healthcare delivery in the country.
