The Chief Magistrate, U.E. Onochie, ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Awka Correctional Centre.
The police in Awka on Thursday charged two nursing mothers before the Children Sexual and Gender-based Violence Offences Court in Awka, over alleged assault.
The magistrate adjourned the case until August 19 for report of compliance.
The police prosecutor told the court that the case was reported on July 13 by the father of the five-year-old girl.
The defendants had pleaded not guilty to a five-count charge of conspiracy, child stealing, illegal dealing and sale of a child.
Mr Okechukwu said the offence contravened Section 130(2) (a) (b) of the Administration Criminal Justice Law 2022.
The magistrate adjourned the case until March 19 for hearing.
