The ceaseless flow of public funds to a politician who no longer holds public office underscores yet again the economic toll of Nigeria’s unwieldy IPPIS infrastructure.
Ex-tech minister Uche Nnaji, who resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s administration in 2025 after a humiliating certificate forgery scandal, has clinched the PDP’s governorship ticket.
Ope Muritala, who appeared for Mr Nnaji, applied for an adjournment to allow parties to explore the peaceful resolution of the case.
The vice chancellor did not explain in his letter how he obtained Uche’s academic file/records, as such documents are not directly under his custody.
Mr Nnaji had filed the suit following allegations of certificate forgery levelled against him.
The CSO demanded that UNN VC, Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, be suspended pending the completion of the panel’s assignment.
Mr Nnaji’s resignation came after a court case filed by his political opponents in 2024, which relied on The Gazette’s reports.
“It is commendable that the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Mr Uche Nnaji, has resigned following the controversy surrounding discrepancies in his academic certificates,” Mr Obi
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has called for an independent verification of certificates of all members of President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.
Mr Nnaji expressed optimism that the committee would deliver on the assignment.
