Mr Shettima also reiterated Nigeria’s longstanding call for comprehensive reform of the United Nations system to reflect evolving global realities.
“The UN Security Council’s recent resolution to support African-led peace operations is an important step,” Mr Guterres said.
“We call for immediate, unimpeded humanitarian access so that food, medicines, water, and fuel can reach everyone in need,” the UN official said.
The UN chief said closing girls’ schools is “an unjustifiable violation of human rights that inflicts long-lasting damage on the entire country.”
“The secretary-general urges all parties concerned to exercise maximum restraint and to work to stop hostilities immediately,” Mr Haq said.
