Sheema Sen Gupta, UNICEF child protection director, told the Security Council that the world was failing to protect children.
“The stability of the country and a lasting peace for all, including new generations, is at stake,” said a UN official.
The crisis in Haiti has also disrupted essential services, including education and healthcare, leaving over 300,000 children without access to schools.
Ms Gamba described the use of schools both by armed forces and armed groups as “a very worrisome trend”, calling for them to remain “zones of peace”.
