The market breadth closed positive, recording 39 gainers compared to 27 losers by the end of trading.
The market’s weak performance was primarily driven by selloffs in stocks of Zenith Bank, Geregu, Nigerian Breweries and Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCo).
The market capitalisation gained N84 billion or 0.29 per cent to close at N28.733 trillion, compared to N28.649 trillion.
The market capitalisation gained N13 billion or 0.05 per cent to close at N26.961 trillion from N26.947 trillion recorded at the previous section.
The downturn was due to sell-offs in tier-one banks and industrial stocks such as Zenith Bank, Stanbic Bank and BUA Cement.
The negative performance was due to selloffs in market heavyweights Dangote Cement and MTN Nigeria.
The upturn was impacted by gains recorded in large capitalised stocks, amongst which are MTN Nigeria, Airtel Africa and Seplat.
The market capitalisation increased by N130 billion to N27.828 trillion from N27.697 trillion the previous day.
In all, investors bought and sold 241.84 million shares worth N2.71 billion achieved in 3,819 deals.
The bearish mood was occasioned by profit-taking in Guaranty Trust and 15 other stocks.
