The UN World Food Programme (WFP) says a funding crisis has left no fewer than 5.4 million people stranded without aid in West Africa.
The quake has left at least four people dead and 36 others injured, according to news reports quoting civil protection authorities.
He said he had set up a task force to investigate, calling the reported theft a crime against children, the elderly and the disabled.
The consequences worldwide could be the worst since World War II in terms of feeding the hungry,” the WFP head said.
“Poor people in both countries rely heavily on bread as a source of nutrition. It is subsidised and thus relatively widely available.”
“Families have been forced from their homes due to shortages of water and pasture, leading to increased conflict between communities.”
About 14.3 million people in Sudan need humanitarian assistance, of which 25 per cent require food security and livelihood support.
“WFP cannot rule out deeper refugee ration cuts in the coming months.”
The UN agency receives the award for its efforts to combat hunger and bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas.
