In a statement on Sunday, Salisu Harris, spokesman for the Garun Mallam council, said that the attackers reportedly stormed the community at about 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and opened fire on residents.

The attack caused panic in the community, while residents, vigilantes and police personnel mobilised to confront the attackers and protect residents.

The Sarkin Noma of Kano, Yusuf Chiromawa, was also reportedly rescued from the attackers during the incident.
