Cairo Ojougboh, ex-NDDC executive director, dies; Tinubu mourns APC chieftain

The deceased slumped, and died watching the match between the Super Eagles and Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

Cairo Ojougboh, an All Progressives Congress chieftain, is dead.

He was 64.

Mr Ojougboh reportedly slumped and died while watching Nigerian Super Eagles vs Bafana Bafana of South Africa African Cup of Nations semi-finals game on Wednesday.

The politician from Delta once represented the Ika federal constituency in the House of Representatives.

Mr Ojougboh was a member of the House of Representatives (from 2003 to 2007) and a leader of the APC in Delta.

His family have yet to make an official statement about his demise. But his political associate, former vice president Atiku Abubakar, has shared a message of condolence on his demise.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has mourned the passing of the former NDDC executive director.

In a statement by his media Ajuri Ngelale on Thursday, Mr Tinubu condoled the Ojougboh family, the government, and the people of Delta over the tragic loss.

Mr Tinubu prayed for the repose of the departed and called on the family to find strength in God and the cherished memories and legacy of the late Ojougboh said the statement.

Posting a photo of Mr Ojougboh on X on Thursday morning, Mr Abubakar said, “The sudden passing of my close friend, Dr Cairo Ojougboh, deeply saddens me.

“His love for our country was profound. Cairo was a shining example of patriotism; his dedication to Nigeria was unwavering, and his departure is a personal loss that leaves a void in my heart.”

He added, “As we mourn, let us remember the passion and zeal for Nigeria that defined his life. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
